Happy New Year 2015!

If you are reading this, you are alive and that is pretty darn good.  dec-31-calendar

In a world that barely promises and rarely delivers fairness, my hope is that we each do our individual and collective best to even out the world’s woes.

Let’s reflect on the last year and look forward to a new year by listing concrete ways we have made the world a better place.

Because, really, what is the meaning of being alive?

warmly, marcy

About marcy westerling

I am a long time community organizer with a passion for justice and founded the Rural Organizing Project in 1992. Derailed by a Stage IV Ovarian Cancer diagnosis in spring 2010, I have stayed in treatment since then. I am learning how to embrace livingly dying and hope that by starting a Phase One immunology clinical trial at UPenn in spring of 2013 I will have more time to find the sweet spots of thriving while terminally ill.

  1. My wishes for a productive and rewarding New Year as you face another round of challenges and treatments. Your posts have made this world a better place by sharing your experience and positive approach to life.

  2. Dearest Marcy…I’m not surprised that your new year’s message is a call for making the world a better place. Thank you for a reminder that we all need to hear and heed. I think I’ve done a few good deeds to improve our world – thanks in part to your inspiration. I just wish the bad guys would take a little break. And now I can hear you say – find something in common and work with them!

  3. Happy New Year Marcy…….your example has been a wonderful example for me. Not just as an activist, though that too, but perhaps more importantly, you’re ur steadfastness and toughness, tendered by a huge heart. It’s difficult to know what to say sometimes. I have told you do many times, how much I love you, yet it still feels right to repeat it. I love you.

  4. WIshing you a lovely healing year Marcy, following your truth and without knowing it, helping others to do the same. WIshing you mega tons of love…. The gift is in the giving……. and thank you for the reminder to do our best – no matter how small or large to reach out to our fellow man, and our planet. Much love……………. Charlene

  5. Right on message! And you certainly have made and continue to make the world a better place. We are all richer for having you with us and we plan to keep you. xo

  6. I just watched the Stephen Hawking movie The Theory of Everything and he had such inspiring quotes. “However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.” Another one was “The Simpson’s is the best thing on American TV.” OK, maybe so but the best quote of his many that I like is “The past, like the future is indefinite and exists only as a spectrum of possibilities.” Marcy, I love the way you extend your possibilities.
